İngilizcede Üstünlük Derecesi (Superlative): The -est ve The Most
Bir grup içinde en'i, yani en uzunu, en güzeli ya da en iyisini belirtmek için İngilizcede üstünlük derecesi (superlative) kullanılır. Kısa sıfatlara 'the' ile birlikte -est eki gelir: "He is the tallest in the class." Uzun sıfatlarda ise ek yerine 'the most' kullanılır: "It's the most beautiful city." Bazı sıfatlar düzensizdir ve ezberlenmesi gerekir: "This is the best day." Türkçede 'en' sözcüğünü sıfatın önüne koyup işiniz biter; İngilizcede ise hem 'the' artikelini unutmamak ("She is tallest" yanlıştır) hem de ekle 'most'u birlikte kullanmamak ('the most tallest', 'the expensivest' yanlıştır) gerekir.
