Superlativo dos adjetivos em inglês (-est / the most)
Para dizer qual é o melhor, o maior ou o mais importante de um grupo, o inglês usa o superlativo. Com adjetivos curtos, acrescenta-se -est e o artigo 'the': "He is the tallest in the class." Com adjetivos longos, usa-se 'the most' antes do adjetivo: "It's the most beautiful city." Atenção aos irregulares, como 'the best' e 'the worst' ("This is the best day."). Diferente do português, que forma o superlativo com 'o mais...' ou 'o melhor', em inglês o artigo 'the' é obrigatório e nunca se misturam as formas: não se diz 'the most tallest' nem 'the expensivest'.

Adjetivos curtos ganham -est. Os longos ficam iguais e levam the most na frente. E as duas formas começam com the, porque você aponta um vencedor específico.

Vamos pelos curtos. Tall tem uma sílaba, então é só acrescentar -est, com the. He is the tallest in the class.

Atenção à ortografia. Um adjetivo curto terminado em -y vira -i antes de -est. Today was the easiest test.

Agora os longos. Expensive tem três sílabas, então não mexemos nele: colocamos the most na frente. It's the most expensive phone.

Mesmo padrão para qualquer adjetivo longo. Beautiful fica inteiro, e the most faz o trabalho. It's the most beautiful city.

Dois adjetivos quebram as regras e você vai usá-los todo dia. Good vira the best, e bad vira the worst. Decore esses. This is the best day.

Agora as duas armadilhas clássicas. Nunca combine as formas. É the tallest, não the most tallest. Escolha uma, nunca as duas.

E não coloque -est num adjetivo longo. Expensivest não existe: os longos sempre levam the most.

Lembre-se: adjetivos curtos levam -est, longos the most, e good e bad viram the best e the worst. E the está quase sempre presente.
